Classroom Managment Philosophy
My views on classroom management are stemmed from my experience in middle grades classrooms as well as the readings and teachings of Harry and Rosemary Wong. I believe that an effectively managed classroom environment is based upon the co-creation and successful implementation of rules and procedures. Such rules and procedures will in turn aid in the effectiveness of student learning. I believe that it is of most importance for all students to know the specific rules and behavioral examples that they are to abide by within our classroom community. They should also know the expectations that their teacher and peers have of them. I also believe that it is pertinent for students to continuously demonstrate their comprehension of the rules and expectations through their actions and behaviors within our learning community.

Procedures and routines should be implemented for every possible event and circumstance that may arise in the classroom. Such procedures may include: an entering and exiting procedure, transitioning between classes, submitting assignments, attention signals, restroom/emergencies, group work participation, and an absentee procedure. During adolescences, students are in strong need of structure and discipline, yet they have a strong desire to make their own choices and abide by their own rules and understandings. For that very reason, I feel as though it is beneficial for the class to compile a list of what are appropriate behaviors and what are inappropriate behaviors together with the guidance and influence of the teacher. We will also develop a list of consequences for misbehavior and the order in which they should be enforced. Having the student come up with the consequences with my guidance will give the students a sense of ownership and accountability for their actions.
